About Us

About Valley Radio:

Valley Radio was the brain child of Jon Butler and Gareth Smith, two local radio presenters who felt that their local area needed a fresh new local radio service. The studios were set up in the Castleford Community Learning Centre to the rear of Valley Gardens in Castleford (hence the station name) and the station was launched at midday on Saturday 1st April 2017. Although the station can only be currently heard online, the whole team here at Valley Radio are currently working hard to be able to bring a full local service to the district on DAB by 2018/19.

Valley Radio is an up-beat local internet radio station playing the best variety of music from the 1960s to now with news & weather on the hour 24/7. Covering Wakefield, Normanton, Pontefract, Featherstone, Castleford and Knottingley. We are a local community focused station and encourage community engagement.

In addition we also provide sports news and showbiz news every hour along with the latest traffic reports for the district at breakfast and drivetime. Throughout the day we air specialist features and community chat and endeavour to promote local sport, charities, clubs, societies, businesses and events across Wakefield and the 5 towns on a regular basis.
